The bowhead is named after its characteristic massive triangular skull, which is used to break through Arctic ice. Other common names of the species are the Greenland right whale or Arctic whale. American whalemen called them the steeple-top, polar whale and Russia or Russian whale. The bowhead has the largest mouth of any living animal representing almost one-third of the length of the body, the longest baleen plates with a maximum length of 4 meters (13.1 feet) and maybe the longest-lived mammal of all time, with the ability to reach an age of up to 300 years.
This Bowhead whale model could be rested as it is on a surface or hanged onto a wall using the pre-drilled holes on its side. The model is a three-dimensional figure that has a flat side for ease when hanging. Each piece is unique and slightly different from any other made by the same process.
